Sweaty and sentimental.
A chilly winter outdoor run leaves me with sweaty cold fleece that reminds me of my youth of day after day, winter after winter, first skiing, then snowboarding.
I miss that. I miss scoping out the reduced lift ticket days and skiing with my dad. I miss the excitement of the ski swap, and the first time I got a season pass -- and so did my best friend. I miss the hours and hours spent riding chair lifts, trying to chose the shortest lift line, trying to catch up with friends, meeting kids who didn't go to your school. I miss the excitement of getting out of school and plotting whose mom would drive out to Chestnut, the car slowly making its way up the last hill that stood between us and the resort, and late night pick ups, not coming in till ten minutes AFTER you were told to be ready for pick up, and hoping as you came up the lift and you could see the ski patrol standing there that they would say "last run" and not "goodnight", and then riding alone in the car with dad sometimes stopping to pick up a gallon of milk and getting a treat, too, and coming home to a house where everything was winding down and there were leftovers in the fridge.

Halloween cleanup.
Happy Halloween, lovelies. May the latex wash thoroughly from your hair and the blood wipe easily from your floor.

Make A Wish: Miami, day 1
Honeymoons are for suckers. We went on a family holiday -- Amy's long lost Make A Wish trip. In 2002 (I think), we were headed to Disney at Thanksgiving when Amy had her first ever seizure at the airport. In the meantime there have been divorces, moves, and health woes, but this last week, the stars aligned and we made our way to Miami Beach, to fulfill Amy's wish of warm salt water and lots of sisterly love.
We woke at 4:30 am, were picked up at 5:30. At 5:31, Erica locked herself out of her car -- and her ID in the car. At 6:00 we made our way to the airport. Oy. I should include a story, some text. But oy. Pictures, instead. A few now, and I'll link to the day one album soon.

Annie-palooza and Mom-fest.
After a what felt like a whole lotta used car shopping, my sis has a new-to-her car, complete with her first set of airbags! Giddy up, Sis!
In honor of this glorious occassion, Mom came to get her Scion (copycat!) back from Annie, and since she was here, we put her to work.

On Saturday morning, we hit the succulents at Prairie Gardens. The weather Sunday was amazing, and we spent the day on the porch potting and sipping beverages. I set to work filling each milkglass centerpiece and Mom repotted all of our Boston ferns.
Never one to miss a party, Annie came to visit the new vehicle. Indoor clumsy cat was brought outside for cuddling, by Annie. Aaaand ended up in a hanging basket -- possibly my fault.

Engagement Party (BETH RULES!)
Mom and Annie came to town this weekend for our engagement party. Beth threw us a great party featuring vegan hotdogs (as you know, we are big fans), AND recovered sister's lost digital camera from her backyard.
We are so lucky to have friends and family who support and celebrate our decision to marry. Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us instead of doing their school work. Thank you to Jeanne for the many many varieties of cupcakes (also my breakfast this morning), and one thousand thank you's to Beth. We had a wonderful time. Pictures here.
This was the first time Mom had made it to down since summer before last. This is the first time she's been to our new house. This was the first time I've seen her walk in over a year. Tomorrow, on Tuesday, we head to the hospital for her knee surgery.
