Kimberly Sue (Kozak) Kelly, 60, formerly of Galena, died in her home May 5, 2011.
Kim was born in Chicago on September 21, 1950, daughter of Fred and Shirley (Franz) Kozak. She graduated from Maine West High School in Des Plaines in 1968, studied at the University of Illinois-Carbondale, and graduated from Elmhurst College.
Married to Roger Kelly on June 27, 1972, they were together more than 30 years and raised three daughters (Allison, Annie, and Amy) in Galena.
Kim lived with humor, enthusiasm, and a smile on her face. She was silly, mischievous, sarcastic, witty, honest and optimistic, and didn’t take herself too seriously. She made everyone feel welcome. She sang constantly. She was known for her warmth, her commitment to her daughters, and her passionate enjoyment of life.
In Galena, she served as a Girl Scout leader, playing guitar and leading sing-a-longs, led choirs at St. Michael Church, and was a substitute teacher and temporary music teacher for the Galena School District. In Kim’s final years she lived in Sleepy Hollow, enjoying her daughters and extended family, and working to transition Amy, her youngest daughter with special needs, into living independently.
She is survived by her three daughters, Allison (Walker), Anne, and Amy Kelly; a brother, Ken, sister-in-law, Jane, and nephew, Clifford Kozak.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Philip Kozak.
A celebration of Kim’s life will be held at her home on Saturday, May 14, with visitation from 12:00 - 3:00 pm, memorial service at 3:00 pm, followed by dinner and continued celebration.

Your mom was a beautiful woman, inside and out. I had no clue she went to Elmhurst! I went there too for a semester. Hope you have a wonderful celebration of your mom on Saturday.
